Course Description:

Elizabeth Barkley, Ph.D. is an innovative educator who has dedicated over four decades to serving students and teachers.  Dr. Barkley has authored four books on college teaching techniques published by Wiley/Jossey-Bass ( Topics include active learning, student engagement, assessment and interactive lecturing.  She has also authored several textbooks in music history. A popular keynote speaker and workshop presenter, she is co-founder with Claire H. Major of Faculty2Faculty: The Alliance for Research-Based Teaching ( and the Executive Director of the K. Patricia Cross Academy ( - a free online video library of college teaching techniques for college teachers. She has also received multiple teaching honors, including being named California's Higher Education Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and being formally recognized for her contributions to undergraduate education by the California State Legislature.
